FOOD Quality in Digital Age - 2nd study visit

“FOOD Quality in Digital Age” – 2nd study visit and invitation to the networking event!

We are happy to announce that the 2nd study visit within the project “FOOD Quality in Digital Age” will take place at the Buda Campus of the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences in Budapest, Hungary, on 7th – 10th June, 2023.

TRAINING ON NON-DESTRUCTIVE ANALYTICAL METHODS

As a part of this project, PhD students and researchers from Czech Republic, Poland, Serbia, and Slovakia will travel to Budapest, Hungary for a study visit that will include the 2nd station of the 5-modules training for researchers on digital food quality evaluation methods. The Department of Food Measurement and Process Control in the Institute of Food Science and Technology will provide a module on non-destructive analytical methods for food quality evaluation. The programme of the visit will also include communication & dissemination activities, networking with stakeholders and international researchers and a project meeting (project management). Besides others the professors of the Department of Food Measurement and Process Control have expertise in non-destructive analytical methods for food quality evaluation including near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS), ultrasonic measurement, acoustic measurement and electronic tongue and electronic nose and applied their knowledge not only in education but in real applications, too. The Department has several ongoing research grants in consortia with industrial partners where these techniques are also applied, using their advantages to provide more accurate and objective characterization of food samples. In addition to, this rapid and non-destructive analytical methods are more sensitive than the human evaluation, therefore, they can provide information about minor changes of quality (e.g. technological defects, adulteration, shelf life problems).

NETWORKING EVENT - INVITATION

As a part of the study visit a networking event will be organized, where the participants will have the opportunity to meet with local/regional academic community and project stakeholders (incl. food producing companies, business associations, etc.). This event will be the side-event of the 5th International Conference on Biosystems and Food Engineering. The conference gathers ca. 70 participants from the field of food engineering, food science and technology. The networking meeting will be a great opportunity to learn about the newest research results, modern food technology and measurement technologies in the food industry, exchange knowledge and establish valuable interpersonal links. Time and place: June 9th, 2023, 15:45 – 17:00 (CET), at Lurdy Conference and Event Center (Könyves Kálmán krt. 12-14, H-1097 Budapest, Hungary). All interested Parties please confirm your participation by e-mail: biro.barbara@uni-mate.hu .

FIELD TRIP

The participants will visit a couple of industrial partners of the Institute of Food Science and Technology in the frame of stakeholder visits. The profiles of these companies are meat processing and retailing, and the production of various fresh and processed egg products. During the study visit, the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences will coordinate the project-related meetings. Our institution will be represented by:

  • Dr. Zoltan Kovacs -  Project Coordinator,
  • Dr. Zoltán Gillay,
  • Ms. Flóra Vitális (PhD candidate),
  • Mr. Mátyás Krisztián Lukács (PhD candidate).
